This project which was sponsored by
the ‘Education Tax Fund’
(ETF) in Nigeria involves setting up thirty seven
centres throughout zones in Nigeria with LEGO
Educational Kits and workbooks for students.
Tayo Soluade and Juan Spies the
project managers identified sixteen trainers from the
various zones in Nigeria. All sixteen trainers gathered
at the ETF offices with anticipation, to undergo an
extensive training course in the use of the specialized
LEGO equipment and the structured curricular material.
By the end
of the week a lot of technical knowledge was gained
and great fun was had by all. The trainers worked
enthusiastically, and their willingness to learn
and positive attitude ensured the training was
a success. The Master trainers are now responsible
for training the teachers who will in turn implement
the programme into thirty seven centres.
With the
use of specialized LEGO Educational Kits and structured
curricular material students in the Junior Secondary
Phase (JS1) will be exposed to concepts such as:
structures, forces, pulleys, wheels & axles,
gears, levers, mechanisms and pneumatics. The
course content will also assist students in mathematical,
science and engineering principles as well as
improving thought processes, problem solving and
critical thinking skills.
